Identify those unknown songs with Tunatic

25 05 2007

Tunatic is a little app which analyzes the music playing through your sound card

and returns the title of the song and the artist. There are a few bugs though but they are too little to over-shadow the usability of this program. (Though you can’t expect to return the information of every song you play).

When you install Tunatic, it is initially configured to take up sounds from your

microphone. That means you have to keep you mic near the speakers everytime you

want it to find the song information. But you can easily configure it to take up sounds

from any media player. Just follow the following steps:

1.  Right-click Tunatic and select Settings

2.  Click on Configure

3.  Check the box under Wave-out. Thats all.

Now Tunatic will look for information for any song you play. No mic needed.

Actually, if you’re wondering how to find a song that you’ve somehow got the mp3 file to, right click tunatic, click settings, click configure, then options, then properties, and checkmark the “mono out” line at the bottom part of the window. Click ok, then put a checkmark on this option when it shows up in the new window. Mono out — This means that whatever sound is coming out of your speakers will be what’s identified by tunatic, rather than using a microphone.
Hope this helps
